Slane Castle is a picturesque scene, set in the Boyne Valley, County Meath. It’s construction dates back to 1785 as the Conynham family residence.
Since 1981 Slane Castle has been a popular venue for big concerts, with 80’000 people which can be hosted in the natural amphitheatre of the castle grounds. This year, 2019, is hosting Metallica! Other famous artists who have performed at the castle are U2, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Madonna, Foo Fighters, REM, Kings Of Leon and Oasis to name a few.
The Gandon Room Restaurant at the Castle offers delicious modern Irish meals and a traditional Sunday lunch. The Browne’s Bar with its rock memorabilia and cheerful atmosphere is also worth a visit for a drink.
If you’d like to take a tour in the Castle, the historical tour will show you through a section of the castle displaying the 18th Century decor and interiors.
If you are a fan of Whiskey, take a look at the Slane Distillery tour. The Distillery is within the historic stables, 250 years old. The tour will show you through the heritage room, barley room, cooperage and maturation store. At the end of the tour, you are able to sample the triple casked blend whiskey!
