I usually can be found searching Google Maps for things to do and places to see that are new to me, and one place I found on the map was “Ticknick Park”. Only having 6 reviews on Google Maps I was eager to learn more about this park I hadn’t yet visited or heard of yet. So, deciding spontaneously I decided to get in the car and pay it a visit.
I did find out the hard way that although something might be on the map, that doesn’t mean you’ll find parking nearby. So after a few disgruntled moments later having to reverse down narrow one way country roads with thick brush on each side, I concluded when visiting a new spot some research beforehand might help! Here is some lessons learnt and some research about how to find Ticknick Park and what to expect.
how to get to ticknick park:
Thanks to the useful webpage I found https://parkceltic.ie/ticknickpark/ I discovered the car park for Ticknick parking can be found here:
From the carpark there is a pedestrian path that leads to a gate, and then it’s continuing right from there up the hill to the park. At Ticknick Park you’ll find a short paved road loop around the hill and football pitches scattered around the park. Regardless of it being a relatively small park it’s perfect for stretching your legs and taking in the sea and countryside views.
Information boards throughout the area provide insights into the rich 5,000-year-old heritage, as well as details about local bats, birds, and habitats. Additionally, there is a scenic viewpoint with signage highlighting Bray Hill, Rathmichael Ring Fort, and Puck’s Castle. Pack’s Castle I managed to get a good photo of and prompted me to do some research on when I got home. I found this blog article which has some good photos of the castle: https://irelandinruins.blogspot.com/2011/06/pucks-castle-co-dublin.html?m=1
