A Scramble Up The Rock in Castle Rock & Exploring The Town

Castle Rock is a great place to explore, and I was lucky enough when visiting the area to have a friend who is a local of the area show me around.

One of the first things to see in Castle Rock is the famous rock at Rock Park: a 1.4 mile looped hike which provides sweeping views of the area and Pikes Peak in the distance. The hike itself is not too challenging but has some steep inclines as you get closer to towards the base of the rock. There was previously a trail up to the top of the rock but due to safety reasons the stairs were taken down. The best part of the hike for me was enjoying the beauty of the area, noticing the birds and vegetation along the route and spotting my first wild cactus on the trail (the cactus was a big moment for me, never having seen one in the wild yet!) There are benches available for picnics as well as restrooms at the park.

Next up from the hike was a walk through the downtown area of Castle Rock. Along the way I spotted a preserved City Hotel which was build in 1874 which was designated as a historic landmark.

When I was visiting, at the time I was lucky to have attended Oktoberfest in the town which had a wide range of local beers. Even non-beer lovers will find a beer which they will like, I managed to find a strawberry beer which had just the right amount of sweetness to entice me.

After Oktoberfest we meandered our way along to Festival Park which has some really peaceful trails along the East Plumb Creek, and some great restaurants in the area.

For a town about a 30 minute drive from Denver’s city centre, Castle Rock is a great interesting to explore and I’d imagine a great place to live as shown to me.
