Being a fan of craft gin distilleries, I was quite keen to check out Wright’s Gin Distillery in Yzerfontein on my last trip to Cape Town. Situated about an hour’s drive away from Cape Town, Wright’s Gin is a great place to visit while taking a trip up the West Coast.
They have an impressive selection of craft gins: Pomelo and Grapefruit; Superberry and Buchu; Mango; Watermelon; Green Apple and Lychee; Blue Pea and Cherry Blossom Gin; Strawberry and Rose; London Dry and Amber Spiced Liqueur.
If you can’t decide which of their gins to try, their gin tasting board is a great option since it comes with 4 gin tasters, 2 tonics and some tasty garnishes.
The idea of a gin slushy sounds out of this world, but unfortunately I visited during loadshedding and they weren’t able to make one. I did try their strawberry blossom gin cocktail and shared a gin tasting board, and I was very impressed by each of their flavoured gins!
At the distillery there is a peaceful beach themed garden you can sit in under the shelter. Everything about this distillery was a great experience, with knowledgable and friendly staff, great gins, I do hope to go back again.
